More John McGeoch news......(from the website of Billy Currie - ex-Visage & Ultravox) An American film maker has been in touch about taking part in his John McGeoch Documentary. Looking forward to that. I always liked John. Could be a bit of a cantankerous type while doing the Visage albums but he was a smart Scot. He put on some good parties at his house. I loved the way he put down the guitar solo, at the end of “Block On Blocks', in one take. Easy. He did it in the living room that I was doing the Synth stuff in for the first Album. This was a prefab house, for fucks sake, not really a Studio. Martin Rushents Temporary Studio in his garden. When I saw Magazine live, Johns Guitar sound was great. Cutting, Screaming and quite mad! Duncan on 08:55 14th-Feb-08 GMT #2e3-47477 I enjoyed the Radio 2 documentary (it's always good to hear Magazine on the radio), but I felt it raised more questions than answered - What did Pacific sound like? What did his advertising music sound like? Why did he train to be a nurse? Where can his Fine Art be seen - did he have any influence over their record sleeves?. I liked hearing the new Dave Formula track, as well. Phil Hartley on 08:55 14th-Feb-08 GMT #357-47475 AT LAST! Barry Adamson plays outside of London! UK March 31 - Oxford, Academy April 1 - Edinburgh, Voodoo Rooms April 2 - Glasgow, Oran Mor April 4 - Manchester, Lowry Theatre April 5 - Bristol, Thekla April 6 - Nottingham Rescue, Rooms April 9 - London, Pigalle Club April 10 - Brighton, Komedia Be there, or not! hard2explain on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT #7ec-47474 Just got round to listening to the documentary. Quite enjoyed it, particularly the comments from Johnny Marr and Dave Formula, who sounded genuinely emotional at times. Quite looking forward to his album now as well! Howard on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.shtml] #920-47473 John McGeoch Radio 2 doc is still on line here: flux on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT #d23-47467 March 31st - new Barry Adamson album - 'Back To The Cat' - looks like it's a studio version of the set of covers he played at QEH, London last November - can't wait Phil Hartley on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT #696-47466 Yeah, an hour wasn't really enough. Odd that they completely glossed over The Armoury Show period too. I did enjoy it, though I would say it was one for the already converted. If I hadn't known abot JMcG before listening, I'm not sure it would have motivated me to search for more about him. Nevertheless I appreciate teh effort that went into it. John McCabe @ on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/radio/noscript.shtml] #ab3-47465 The Radio 2 show was quite interesting, but the way The Armoury Show was just glossed over was ridiculous! It's available on the BBC website - link below? flux on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT #3fb-47463 slightly disappointed by the programme... wished it had been longer & more in depth - liked Roddy Frame referring to him as 'an anti-hero' but there was no mention of his sax playing or that amazing technique where he'd end a solo with a feedback note an octave higher than the one he was playing... would like to have heard what TV music he was working on... sadly missed - never forgotten Duncan on 08:40 5th-Feb-08 GMT [www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/] #2e3-47460 You can listen to it here for the next week... Phil Hartley on 08:41 5th-Feb-08 GMT #1e5-47456 Just listened to the McGeoch documenatary on Radio 2. Good stuff, thanks Pete. I thought some of the music choices were a bit odd- none of JMcG's classic solos for instance- but a good listen nonetheless. The Dave Formula track is WEIRD,,,but in a good way of course. I'd love to think that this 'new' interest might motivate someone at Virgin to unearth some unreleased stuff- the Factory/ Russell Club gig for instance. I won't hold my breath though. RobMac on 08:41 5th-Feb-08 GMT #8fe-47454 Anyone know whether the John McGeoch documentary will be available as a 'Listen Again' from the Radio 2 website - I'm going to a Panto so won't be able to listen to it live. Droops on 08:41 5th-Feb-08 GMT #255-47453 A rare bit of daytime Radio airplay for Magazine today on R2's Jeremy Vine prog as he played SBBS and gave a plug to the John McGeoch programme on Saturday night. Conway Paton @ on 08:41 5th-Feb-08 GMT [www.visi.com/fall] #33e-47452 Hi Ian, Conway from the Fall website here. I've just noticed (as a result of a discussion on our forum) that the Magazine tour schedule page doesn't include a show they did at Main Street Cabaret in Auckland, New Zealand, which would have been around Sept. 1980 - before or after the Australian gigs. It was an absolute stormer too, remember it very fondly to this day. All the best. Ryan on 13:47 30th-Jan-08 GMT #70f-47438 Hello, I was the original poster of the bass equipment question. Just wanted to say thanks for all the information provided. If you have any other info about Magazine's gear, I would be glad to hear it. BBC Radio 2 between 8-9pm 2nd Feb. Pete Mitchell tells the story of one the country's most original and exciting guitarists. From his work with Magazine to Siouxsie and the Banshees and P.I.L. McGeoch has remained relatively unknown until now. Mitchell gets a unique insight into the man through Howard Devoto,Siouxsie Sioux,Steven Severin,Malcolm Garrett,Johnny Marr and Roddy Frame. Lloyd James on 12:39 11th-Jan-08 GMT #f67-47298 The Howard voice on it is very convincing in places, so much so I thought it might be a sample of the man himself, but in fact it's Momus doing a very good impersonation.
