Bazza's gig last night was really really enjoyable - he had a 4 piece band incl. Nick Plytas (kbds), an 11 piece horn section & a 20 piece string section - various guests came on... Formula played hammond on The Cat, Eugene Robinson sang Tom Waits, McAlmont sang Curtis Mayfield & Nick Cave did an amazing Brel number - Immodesty Blaize stripped to Bernstein full track list: Man From UNCLE (Goldsmith), Shot In The Dark (Mancini), The Cat (Turrentine), Mr Eddy's Theme (Adamson), Angel Eyes (Brent/Dennis), Vibes Ain't Nothing But.. (Adamson), Romeo Is Bleeding (Waits), Uomo DE Rispaterre (Morricone), Dirty Harry (Schifrin), Human Jungle (Barry), Next (Brel), Big Bamboozle (Adamson), Pusherman (Mayfield), Man With Golden Arm (Bernstein), Walk On By (Bacharach) - Adamson played bass, guitar, vibes on 'The Vibes' & melodica on 'Un Uomo' - did hope Devoto would show for a number - they could've done Goldfinger couldn't they? Ryan @ on 12:37 28th-Nov-07 GMT #c4b-47013 Sorry, wasn't thinking, meant to type late 70s. Ryan @ on 12:37 28th-Nov-07 GMT #c4b-47012 Hey, I'm a long-time Magazine fan, and a bassist. I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the gear (pedals, guitars, amps) Magazine used in the early 70s? Especially curious about what that great chorus is that was used on the bass in those days.. Thanks a lot for any help. Shawn on 12:55 13th-Nov-07 GMT #575-46953 Does anyone have an acapella for 'Give You Everything?' If so, please contact me at myspace.com/masterofrecords. Thanks! Graeme Oxby on 17:48 9th-Nov-07 GMT #1bf-46871 New track from Dave Formula featurning Barry Adamson on bass up on www.myspace.com/daveformula Tom Lawrence on 17:48 9th-Nov-07 GMT #d7b-46803 Lydon answered my question in the new issue of Uncut. I won't give much away, but his answer was about McGeoch's alchoholism during his final years and how his death came as almost a relief. It's very sad for such an underappreciated talent to go out like that. Graeme @ on 17:48 9th-Nov-07 GMT #2d1-46796 Cheers G, ticket incoming & a seat for me old legs too! Graeme Oxby on 13:05 31st-Oct-07 GMT #88d-46774 Graeme.. Barry is sounding better than ever.. he's just done a fabulous bass part on Dave Formula's forthcoming solo album. Go to the South bank gig - Dave Fomula's joining him on stage on the second night too. <ore info at www.myspace.com/daveformula Graeme @ on 13:06 31st-Oct-07 GMT #2d1-46747 Hi y'all, just great finding this site. Been on an odyssey into my fave music from then & to hear Parade from Play version again just pinned me to my seat recently. Oh for a Tardis. Q's: every other 70/80's band is grabbing mullah via retro tours, will Devoto ever perform again or should I just shadow Buzzcocks sites? Adamson: it was his bass rifts that really got me into the band, does the same round sound still emeinate from the man as I fancy the gig in November? Thanks all, the light still pours, G chip on 08:36 29th-Oct-07 GMT #496-46741 In Devoto's lyrics book it's 'ostentatious' ('It Only Looks As If It Hurts', Black Spring Press, 1990, p.49). Droops on 08:36 29th-Oct-07 GMT #7e6-46735 It's definitely 'ostentatious' if you ask me. Carter was updated to Reagan nicely on this song once upon a time.. dylan on 08:37 29th-Oct-07 GMT #455-46723 in 'model worker' the lyric is 'i have been indulging in a seditious display' you can tell this is the correct lyric because he later says 'while the revolution lasts' and seditious means to incite rebellion. I love the website but just thought you should know. maybe you could add a corrections link.I saw a few other errors that should be corrected for posterity Nicole @ on 08:37 29th-Oct-07 GMT #c98-46697 Are you currently accepting advertising on your website shotbybothsides.com? It was during the Manchester episode of the quite good 'Stuart Maconie's TV Towns' on ITV3. Two points to me. Lady21 on 21:19 8th-Oct-07 GMT #e39-46400 I got my Luxuria box set in the mail from Japan today. It's a wonderful set. I love the book, and I have yet to try and play the video (I don't know what format it is in). It was definitely worth it for the second copy of UL (with bonus tracks!) on CD. Tom Lawrence @ on 21:19 8th-Oct-07 GMT #d7b-46395 Hi. I'm new to this site, but I've only recently started listening to Magazine through John Mcgeoch's work with PIL. The first 3 albums are nothing but immortal.(MMATW Is good but suffers from bad production) Anyway I have to say that this band were probably the most overlooked group of the 70/80's but at least they're getting more respect over the years. I've just sent an e-mail to Uncut magazine's John Lydon Q&A asking him about his memories of Mcgeoch. Probably won't get an answer. See ya Droops on 18:04 30th-Sep-07 GMT #7e6-46337 I'm sure it was SBBS on the intro to What's On... flux on 18:42 25th-Sep-07 GMT #2ed-46330 @Phil - I'm going to the Adamson 2nd night - will let you know what it's like.... CPL @ on 18:42 25th-Sep-07 GMT [www.youtube.com/watch] #af8-46320 Maybe by memory is failling, but I think it was the intro to 'Motorcade' that introduced the music section of 'What's on'. 'So it goes' largely pre-dated Magazine. TW also made the excellent 'B'dum B'dum' documentary that's recently turned up on YouTube. Enjoy. Dave Candler @ on 18:42 25th-Sep-07 GMT #136-46314 Re Droops' comments on his/her introduction to Magazine via Tony Wilson and So It Goes. Thanks for the reminder! Tony chose some great musical clips to introduce different sections of the programme: film, music, theatre etc. Shot By Both Sides was, indeed, one of them. The others included Television's 'Elevation', from Marquee Moon, and '1-2-X-U,' from Wire's Pink Flag album.
