Re:'I have been listening to McGeoch's 'The Thin Air' of late - what a track - he could have been the next John Barry if he hadn't hung out with Lydon & Co.' McGeoch was imitating the stylistic traits of Barry - that does not make him the next John Barry, merely a magpie, a man torn between experimentation (PIL) and conformity (Magazine) flux on 16:21 30th-Mar-06 GMT #688-37444 very harsh, Zen - conformity to what? there are no original ideas - just interpretations... I think Magazine were maybe a more conventional band than PIL but they certainly didn't conform... and I would love to have heard some solo McGeogh stuff Ricardo on 16:21 30th-Mar-06 GMT #5bd-37445 Harsh indeed, Zen. He played much too much American metal stuff with PIL and excellent though it was, you certainly couldn't call it experimental. Age may bring wisdom and experience, but it also brings resentment and fear. In musical terms as well as any other terms. E.g. 'I've heard it all before, it sounds just like Travis/The House Of Love/The Byrds etc., etc.' I really do believe that a chap or chapess gets too old for 'pop' music.
