Probably not. I'll try some html...<P> Not sure why Permafrost should be viewed as misogynistic, it seems to me to be the most acutely directed of all their songs, an original, angular, psychopathically crooked expression of passion. And isn't it a bit funny? I love this band because the lyrics, like Devoto's vocals, walk the finest line between comedy and agony, always threatening to collapse into some kind of appaulling 'Divine Comedy' style disaster, but recovering credibility at the last moment when we realise there's a real (twisted) integrity in those lyrics. Just my opinion, of course. Maybe they're not supposed to be funny at all.<P> [Why aren't there any Magazine songs or clips to download from this site yet?!]

I like your interpretation, Maus. I've always considered Devoto's lyrics and singing to be extremely psychopathic, myself. *g* It's one of the reasons I like Luxuria so much. I don't know if it's intentional, but if it is it's the only music I know where it doesn't sound silly and exaggerated. And that's fun. </opinion>

sometimes i think it would be great to know HDs meanings for his lyrics. then i wonder if it would be disaappointing or even if i would disagree with him! there are a few songs that i have personalised over the years, making them fit my predicament or circumstances. on the funnier side, for years in Philidelpia i thought it was I know that Carter will look after me, not Cadre. this was reinforced by the substitution of Reagan on the Play album.

Maus...you should be a reviewer. I can write about food but have a block when it comes to describing music. Yeah I too would love to know what the words mean to the writer. It was interesting reading the summary of lyrics on Buzzkunst. Openmind...I thought it was Carter too (Model Worker?).Just thought of another one I like very much...'we met in a psychiatric unit. She was in for having habits no-one else would try'. That last line is so clever...makes me laugh too.
