Musings
Just a quick vote of appreciation directed to you all here: Despite the reputation Magazine have as a thinking man's band, this has never resulted in the shower of pretension one encounters on other music sites/message boards. No conceited 'creative' people (God save us from them, the last thing we need is more underachievers with more ego than talent), no 'poets' (thank Howard), just people who take their pleasure seriously. I'm just glad you're all out there. To extend the Luxuria debate further, anyone have any live reminiscences of the band. Will post mine in the near future. open mind on 12:00 24th-Feb-04 GMT #0b3-27104 s (steve) goodlad isnt s - g, or female, but in my heart of hearts when i was there... S-G on 12:00 24th-Feb-04 GMT #a6c-27117 Jack Prussia...Sadly have never seen Luxuria live, only Magazine twice & Devoto solo. Look forward to reading about it when you post. Phil Hartley on 12:00 24th-Feb-04 GMT #6a1-27118 Only saw Luxuria once in Manchester during the Beast Box Tour. Terrific gig including a stunning version of TLPOOM. Saw Noko after the gig wearing what appeared to be his mum's fur coat and trying to look like a rock star. He DID hav an attractive young lady on his arm though! It'll be terrific to see Howard back in Manchester again. Neike @ on 18:22 24th-Feb-04 GMT [440.datavibe.net/noko/] #772-27123 Yeah, I'm female. =) Couldn't be a rabid Noko groupie if I wasn't. *lol!* Arryah... was that out loud? *headshaking* Anyway, I haven't seen Luxuria live, mostly because I was too young to know any music by name, much less appreciate even the concept of a gig... as in, think 5 or 6... *fret* Hitting myself for not being older now. ;) S-G on 18:22 24th-Feb-04 GMT #ebd-27129 Neike & Maus ..I dunno why I thought you were male (sorry). I wonder why the gig on March 6th hasn't been mentioned on the 'news' bit of this site. Neike @ on 01:44 25th-Feb-04 GMT [440.datavibe.net/noko/] #8f2-27131 S-G: Likewise. I knew Maus to be female, but then, I know 'Maus' means mouse (I'm german afterall), and my name's a derivation of a german feminine name (Meike, my real name) - but your name is pleasantly without gender, and so I automatically assumed you'd be a guy. :D So I guess we're even. ;) Maus @ on 01:44 25th-Feb-04 GMT #9b8-27135 Aaah so 'mouse' is gendered female in German?! That had never occured to me. The cartoon character in the graphic novel of the same name is male, I think. I just assumed most people on here to be male because most punk/music/Magazine fans/geeks (!) are still male, unfortunately. I was going to say I've never met a female Magazine fan until I realised I've never met a male one either. Also been wondering why Bridgewater Hall hasn't appeared on the news page yet... Neike @ on 01:44 25th-Feb-04 GMT [440.datavibe.net/noko/] #772-27137 'I've never met a female Magazine fan until I realised I've never met a male one either.' - lol! Good one, Maus. And no, 'Maus' is indefinite gender as a -name-, but it's usually used as a female nickname, like you rarely call a guy 'Mouse'. Just a culture thing, mainly; though in germany, it's also 'die Maus' (die: female), so that may add to it, but I doubt it. Eh.
