Michael Bakunin's comment about An Alternative Use of Soap noted. I saw this album for sale in a Sheffield record store in 1982, but, chump that I was, decided it was too expensive at a pound or two more than the usual. I could kick myself now. Anyway, as other correspondents, I'm very happy to see a Magazine site; it is remarkable to note how underrated Magazine are, but genuine talent never achieves the recognition it deserves.

'Soap' and 'weather' are apaprently not available in the Uk but the net companies only rent the database so they cant delete it. I got 'weather' from cdnow.com in less than a week and soap is coming. I ordered a third thing as I had no idea what ot was - turns out to be a collectors 'magazine' for 78s. obviosu the name and 1978 was a bit close for the shelf stacker.

Great to see a webpage for Magazine after all these years.can anyone help me with the Boston-boot? I have it on a poor tape from early 80´s. Also interested in other live tapes, videos etc.

nice site , i'm a big wire fan and i'm trying to track down a copy of the "dominoe" bootleg (apparently wire/magazine split). does anyone know anything about this? (tracklist? cover?) i see it mentioned but i can't even find anyone who's seen or heard it.p

Being the big Howard Devoto fan that I am, I like to keep track of what he & his fellow band-mates have been up to. I was in Australia in spring 99 and I noticed that since the early 90's Barry Adamson has "found" religion, & has been puting out religeous themed music "down under". Dave Formula's last work that I know of was the last song on the Luxuria "beast Box". The Guitarist (his name escapes me at this time) was in the "armory Show" then he joined up with the Tv Pistols dude for P.i.l. One of the drummers was with "swing out Sister" for a while, but that's all I know for now. If anyone knows if Howard is planning to put out a new album anytime soon, I'd really appreciate an e-mail notice. thanks :+)

Perhaps I spoke too soon about Barry Adamson. either the one I saw in Australia is a similar looking person, or it's a side project not mentioned in the bio on Barry. Armoury Show does have a "u" in it.

After hearing Floorboards on the Bbc trailer I dug out my Rays & Hail Cd and gave it a good airing. Then I got on this site to see if anyone remembered and thankfully there was. I saw Magazine twice and met Howard backstage at Newcastle City Hall. I still have the ticket he autographed. I also have a video with 5 songs on.

is the live version of "parade" on "rays and hail" taken from "play"? and when has the bbc played "floorboards" then? just curious.p

Thanks for the site. I've been trying to find one using search engines but it's been rough. Finally got the brains to check for links on the Buzzcocks sites. No chance of a boxed set, huh? The Galaxy 500 set did very well for a semi-obscure band. Maybe Magazine's could do the same?

Does anyone know where to get all these live bootlegs then. Ive got a copy of the virgin vid and may be able to copy it. As for cd releases try gemm.com

www.buzzcocks.com reports "look for Howard Devoto interviews in upcoming issues of Mojo & Record Collector magazines" lets hope the site redesign gets finsihed first

When you watch the Bbc's "top of the Pops" you realize how Unimportant it is tp perform within this programm; how unimportant it is to be able to play a musical instrument properly or how unimportant it is to be able to really sing. To get into Top of the Pops you have "to know somebody" or better you have a short skirt and big personality. If you really can make music; play or sing does not seem to matter !
